CMIG Invests RMB15 Billion to Build a 2GW PV Power Station, the World's Largest of its Kind

The Groundbreaking Ceremony of the CMIG (Yanchi) State New Energy Comprehensive Demonstration Area was held in Yanchi, Ningxia on April 18. The Ceremony was presided by Xue Gang, deputy secretary general of the government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR), and witnessed the participation of Wang Heshan, executive vice chairman of the NHAR, CMIG President Li Huaizhen, among others.

With RMB15 billion in total investment, the CMIG (Yanchi) State New Energy Comprehensive Demonstration Area will build up a 2GW (2,000 MW) PV power generation project, covering about 60,000 mu in cumulative term. It will become the largest single PV power station project of its kind in the world.

Wang Heshan addressed the Ceremony, indicating that the project commenced today marks a new breakthrough realized in the strategic cooperation between CMIG and the NHAR government.

Li Huaizhen pointed out that the commencement of the project represents another important milestone as CMIG fulfills the strategic cooperation agreement signed with the NHAR government in August 2014 after the commencement of the 200 MW project in Tongxin County, Ningxia on December 26, 2014. It comes as another key step taken by CMIG to speed up the all-round construction of Ningxia New Energy Demonstrative Area.

According to Li Huaizhen, it's believed that with the care and support of leaders of all levels of the NHAR, the construction of the CMIG Ningxia (Yanchi) National New Energy Comprehensive Demonstrative Area will surely rise to the challenges and difficulties, and the Demonstrative Area will be developed into an excellent project and benchmark base of new energy in China, thus making a difference in the construction of inland open-type economic experimental zone and the socio-economic development of Ningxia.

It's reported that the CMIG Ningxia (Yanchi) State New Energy Comprehensive Demonstrative Area will build such projects as diversified and complementary renewable energy power generation system covering wind, solar, biomass and energy storage, green modern animal husbandry demonstrative base, green modern pasture growing demonstrative base and the world's largest PV touring base. In the meantime, CMIG will fulfill its corporate social responsibility, work with the government of Ningxia to establish industrial development funds, participate in the construction of new countryside and increase the income of poverty-stricken locals.

CMIG has, since its inception, acted upon the historical mission of "following the national strategy, improving the economic vitality and synergizing the capital" and rapidly launched industrial integration arrangement from a high starting point based on the strategic positioning of industry-finance integration. China has put high on the agenda the development of the new energy industry, the PV industry in particular, viewed it as a strategic emerging industry and provided key support. As the first-ever new energy comprehensive demonstrative area in China, Ningxia enjoys prominent resource advantages and increasingly evident strategic position in China's energy pattern. CMIG participates in and speeds up the construction of Ningxia New Energy Comprehensive Demonstrative Area and joins hands with Ningxia in this endeavor, thereby facilitating the transfer and upgrading of the PV industry. This is conductive for China to explore into the new ways of energy restructuring and carbon emission reduction; it also helps accumulate new experience for China to consolidate private capital and social responsibility, realize the reorganization of three factors, namely capital, talent and skilled labors, further liberate the productive forces and improve industrial competitive edge. Besides that, by making innovation in the comprehensive development mode of new energy, this step is beneficial to creating new modes for mid-western inland areas to turn preemptive weakness to posterior advantages, developing pollution-free GDP, elevating development quality and shaking off poverty in the localities.
