Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University——CMI Should Value Subversive Innovation Opportunities
I would like to, in the first place, offer congratulations to the launch of CMIG-GAC and the inaugural meeting. Just four days ago, Tsinghua University and CMIG jointly established the Institute for Global Industry 4.5 at Tsinghua University, sparking wide attention from the media community, which not only mentioned global industry, but also put forward the Industry 4.5 concept -- jointly proposed by Chairman of CMIG and President Chen Jining. Set up at Tsinghua
University, the Institute is an open platform with a view to propel the integration of global industrial factors and serve the transition and upgrading of Chinese private enterprises. This is the important purpose of the Institute.
We have taken note that based on the Germany Industry 4.0, especially intelligent manufacturing, there is a seamless integration between advanced and intelligent manufacturing and traditional manufacturing industry, which could lead to an important innovation in the future industrial mode. Although Industry 4.0 is still a concept to date, people expect that in the coming ten years - each expectation comes earlier than preconception, this will exert a great impact on the entire industrial economy.
We proposed Industry 4.5 with a view to attach more importance to the integration with China's business community based on the concept of Industry 4.0. In the meantime, we could utilize the integration of global industrial factors to form a new and effective ecological system. So the "0.5", in its own
right, encompasses a strong attitude towards integration. It also includes another attitude which CMIG hopes to display. CMIG and Tsinghua University believe that Chinese companies will not be followers any more in the future global industrial pattern. Instead, they will stand a chance to take a lead innovatively. In particular, some new industrial modes may be created in those industries closely linked with the Chinese market. This is the meaning of 4.5, emphasizing half a step ahead than Industry 4.0. Tsinghua University hopes to give play to its prominent advantages in technologies, talents and connections with the global academic community and enter into cooperation with CMIG. It's hoped that all experts and members of the Advisory Council could contribute respective wisdoms to the Institute of Global Industry 4.5. We're willing to join this endeavor.
We could find from the industrial investment orientations released by CMIG that it highly values the transition and upgrading of traditional industries and hopes to perform its duties in this respect. To be sure, this is critical to Chinese private companies earnestly seeking and creating opportunities
because they couldn't find a new way on the old road and old map. However, I also hope CMIG, including the investment team led by Chairman of CMIG and President Li, could pay special attention to some
“industry-breakdown” opportunities, or subversive innovation opportunities. More importantly, it will help Chinese private companies realize many traditional and viable competitive modes which may be lagging behind the entire industrial development in the coming five to ten years.
