Stephen Orlins: CMIG Needs Global Vision in Overseas Investment

I hope to add a new point of view on the basis of other guests: in addition to focusing on the European market, CMIG's overseas investment requires a global vision.

From the perspective of historical span, ten years ago, the vast majority of China's investment in the United States was from state-owned enterprises, private enterprises investing quite small. However, compared with the situations ten years ago, private enterprises have become the mainstream investors. With 60 sponsor  shareholders, CMIG’s has a diversified structure of shareholder, and shareholders from different industries and fields can play different roles. CMIG lies on a wide base of shareholders, which enables it to obtain professional knowledge in different investment industries from other shareholders.

It also provides convenient conditions for CMIG’s global investment. Inthecaseofthe United States, it welcomes foreign investment in general, and even holds greater enthusiasm for Chinese private enterprises than the stated-owned enterprises. CMIG has established a global financial investment platform, in order to promote China's entry into the international market. There is no doubt about it. So, the United States is very optimistic about the prospects, trends and development of CMIG.

In addition, CMIG is featured by its shareholders coming from different enterprises and industries with a wide coverage. Many small and medium-sized enterprises in the United States are not large enough. Although a number of products are suitable for sales in Chinese cities, they cannot manage to do so because of the lack of proper channels. By means of investment or others, CMIG provides the opportunity to expand its channels.

I want to put forward a good case of deal. It is Shuanghui Group’s acquisition of Smithfield Food (US) rather than CMIG’s transaction. After the successful merger, the American company’s export volume become very large, because they are clear about how to promote the products in the Chinese market. CMIG has so many shareholders from different industries, and their knowledge and network can help to bring the products of the small and medium-sized enterprises in the United States to the Chinese market.

At the same time, CMIG’s overseas investment indeed strengthens the relationship. Whether CMIG chooses to invest in Asia or in the United States, it can help to promote and strengthen the relationship between China and the world, as well as the relationship between China and the United States, promote the exchanges between enterprises, shareholders and investment objects in two countries, and closely connect the Chinese people with the people of the world.
